Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Inhalation: In case of shortness of breath, give oxygen. Immediately move to fresh air. Consult a physician if irritating symptoms develop and persist.
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing. Rinse contaminated skin immediately with plenty of water and
seek medical advice.
Eye Contact: Immediately rinse eyes thoroughly with running water as long as possible (approx. 15 min).
Take injured quickly to factory medical center or call an ambulance (code word: eye accident).
Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. In case of consciousness wash mouth with water and let drink some of
water. Seek medical advice. Keep patient at rest.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable Extinguishing Media: Fire-extinguishing powder Dry sand carbon dioxide (CO2)
Unsuitable Extinguishing Media: Water Foam
Dangerous Combustion Products:
hydrogen chloride
carbon oxides
Protective equipment for firefighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and fire protective suite.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions: Wear chemical resistant protective suite. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not
proceed against the wind direction. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak.
Environmental: Do not release on the soil or into drains.
Methods for cleaning: Cover with dry sand and take up mechanically. Keep in suitable, closed containers for
disposal.
Accidental Release: Records must be kept of all incidents involving uncontrolled leakage or spillage of material,
indicating in particular the amounts concerned, exposure of personnel and countermeasures
taken. Buildings, apparatus, and all items of equipment must be decontaminated and subsequently
inspected to ensure that no further risk remains.
All equipment and protective garments must be either decontaminated or properly contained
for disposal before leaving the area.
Handling and storage
Storage and Handling Precautions: Handle in closed system. Provide exhaust ventilation system in case of open handling of small
quantities. Open handling without suitable personal protective equipment must be
avoided. Keep container tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep container
dry. Avoid formation of dust.
Conditions of storage: Protect against humidity
Do not store together with bases, amines
Technical measures/Precautions: Preferably handle in closed system.
Preventive Precautions (fire/explosion): Observe the usual precautionary measures required for chemicals with dust explosive
properties (Observe national regulations). Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and
sources of ignition.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Industrial Hygiene: All areas where this material is handled must be labelled as a Designated Area. Access to Designated Areas shall be limited to authorised personnel only. All equipment and protective garments must be either decontaminated or properly contained for disposal before
leaving the area. Double wardrobe must be available. The personal protective measure may be adapted appropriately when working in closed
systems or under laboratory conditions. Regular cleaning of equipment, work area and clothing. Open handling at operator intervention points with local exhaust ventilation (e.g. downflow booths). Internal working procedures available to personnel covering personal hygiene, standard cleaning,
waste disposal and maintenance. Personnel instructed and trained, regular refresher training established.
Open Handling: ** The personal protective equipment may be adapted appropriately if the work is carried out
properly inside laboratory fume hoods.
