First-aid measures

- General notes: Take off contaminated clothes.

Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband.

- Inhalation:   Remove to fresh air.

If not breathing, give artificial respiration.

If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention.

- Skin contact: Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes.

Remove contaminated clothing and shoes.

Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse.

Get medical attention if irritation develops.

- Eye contact: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally.

Get medical attention immediately.

- Ingestion: Give large amounts of water to drink.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Fire-fighting measures

suitable extinguishing media       : - Water spray, dry chemical, alcohol foam, or carbon dioxide

unsuitable extinguishing media :- Do NOT use water jets

Special hazard arising from the substance : -

•As with most organic solids, fire is possible at elevated temperatures or by contact with an ignition source.

•Fine dust dispersed in air in sufficient concentrations, and in the presence of an ignition source is a potential dust explosion hazard.

•Containers may explode if heated or exposed to fire.

•During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. When heated to decomposition it may emit toxic fumes of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrogen chloride.

Advice for firefighters :- In the event of a fire, wear full protective clothing and approved self-contained breathing apparatus with full face-piece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode.

Accidental release measures

For non-emergency personnel :-

Protective equipment: Wear plastic apron, sleeves, and boots - if handling large quantities.

Emergency procedures: Do NOT touch or walk through spilled product. Do NOT touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing.

Removal of ignition sources: Eliminate all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flame) within at least 15m.

Provision of sufficient ventilation: Ventilate area of leak or spill.

Control of dust: Avoid dust generation and accumulation by the provision of adequate ventilation.

For emergency responders: -

Keep unnecessary and unprotected people away from area of spill. Cover with plastic sheet to prevent spreading. Absorb spill with earth, sand or other non-combustible material and transfer to container. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after the fire is out. DO NOT GET WATER INSIDE CONTAINERS.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up :-

Containment technique:

(a) Bunding, covering of drains: Do not allow to enter drinking water, waste water or soil. Keep spills out of sewers and water bodies by proper covering of drainage system.

(b) Capping procedures:  Keep container tightly closed.

Cleaning up:

(a) neutralisation techniques : Absorb spill with non-combustible material

(b) Decontamination techniques: Wash spillage site well with water and detergent, be aware of the potential for surfaces to become slippery. Wash thoroughly after dealing with a spillage.

(c) Adsorbent materials: Earth, sand or other inert non-combustible material.

(d) Cleaning techniques: Pick up and place in a suitable container for reclamation or disposal using a method that does not generate dust

(e) Equipment required for containment/clean-up: Use non-sparking tools.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling :-

Recommendations shall be specified to:

(a) Allow safe handling of the substance: Store in a cool, dry, ventilated area; away from sources of heat, sparks and flame.

(b) Prevent handling of incompatible substances: Keep in a tightly closed container. Store away from moisture and incompatibilities. Store protected from light.

(c) Reduce the release of the substance to the environment: Do not drain into soil or streams or sources of water. Minimize dust generation and accumulation.

Advice on general occupational hygiene shall be provided:

(a) Do not eat, drink and smoke in work areas

(b) Wash hands after use; and

(c) Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities :-

(A) How to manage risks associated with:

(i) explosive atmospheres: As per the properties of the substance, it is non explosive

(ii) corrosive conditions: The substance is non corrosive to metals

(iii) Flammability hazards: Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame.

(iv) Incompatible substances or mixtures: Do not store together with oxidizing agents and avoid dust formation and accumulation.

(v) evaporative conditions: Not applicable as per physical state of the substance

(vi) Potential ignition sources: Store away from potential sources of ignition such as heat, sparks, flame.

(B) How to control the effects of:

(i) Weather conditions: Store in a cool, dry, ventilated area away from sources of heat, moisture and incompatibilities. The containers can be stored at room temperature if the ambient temperature is between 15 and 25°C.

(ii) ambient pressure: Not determined

(iii) Temperature: The storage should be in cool conditions in closed containers. Storage temperature should be between 15 and 25°C

(iv) Sunlight: Store in covered area protected from direct sunlight.

(v) Humidity: Store in a dry area in tightly closed containers away from moisture.

(C) Other advice including:

(i) Ventilation requirements: Adequate ventilation is required in the storage area

(ii) Specific designs for storage rooms or vessels: Provide local or general exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to avoid formation of dust.

(iii) quantity limits under storage conditions (if relevant): Not relevant

(iv) Packaging compatibilities: Do not store with incompatible material as given in Section 10. Do not store in moisture absorbing materials

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters :-

Airborne Exposure Limits:  A time weighted average (TWA) concentration of 10 mg/m³ for dusts for an 8 hour day, and 5 day week can be considered when limits have not otherwise been established.

Appropriate engineering controls :-

• A system of local and/or general exhaust is recommended to keep employee exposures as low as possible.

• Local exhaust ventilation is generally preferred because it can control the emissions of the contaminant at its source, preventing dispersion of it into the general work area.

• In industrial situations maintain the concentrations values below the TWA. This may be achieved by process modification, use of local exhaust ventilation, capturing substances at the source, or other methods. Recommendation: Extraction hood.

Individual protection measures :-

(a) Eye / face protection:  Use chemical safety goggles and/or full face shield where dusting or splashing of solutions is possible. Maintain eye wash fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area

(b) Skin protection:

(i) Hand protection: Wear appropriate hand gloves

(ii) Other: Wear protective gloves and clean body-covering clothing

(c) Respiratory protection: For conditions of use where exposure to the dust or mist is apparent, a half-face dust/mist respirator may be worn. For emergencies or instances where the exposure levels are not known, use a full-face positive-pressure, air-supplied respirator.

WARNING: Air-purifying respirators do not protect workers in oxygen-deficient atmospheres.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: Light-sensitive. Combustible

Chemical stability: Stable under ordinary conditions of use and storage.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: Low possibility if used under normal conditions

Conditions to avoid: Heat, dusting and incompatibles.

Incompatible materials: Strong acids and oxidizing agents

Hazardous decomposition products: When heated to decomposition it may emit toxic fumes of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrogen chloride.  

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods  :-

(a) Waste treatment containers and methods:

• Wherever recovery is not possible, then incinerate or bury in a landfill site approved for hazardous waste disposal, in accordance with federal, state, and local authority requirements.

• For incineration, dissolve the material in a combustible solvent and burn in a furnace with afterburner and scrubber.

• The containers should be disposed in the same manner as the product.

(b) Physical/chemical properties: The Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues (dust, solids)

(c) Sewage disposal: Do not mix with sewage.
