Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
February 1, 2016.
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
> 120 s
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The sample melted in the place of applying the flame of burner; it did not burn.

Table 1. Results of preliminary test

Test Number

Time of burning (s)

Comments

Test-1

-

Sample melted in the place of applying the flame of burner. Sample did not burn.

Time of applying the flame of burner: 30, 60, 120 s. Result: NEGATIVE

Test-2

-

Test-3

-

On the basis of these results, no further testing was required (EU Method A.10)

Interpretation of results:
other: not flammable
Remarks:
EU criteria (CLP Regulation EC no. 1272/2008).
Conclusions:
The test item is not flammable according to test A.10 criteria.
Executive summary:

The study of flammability was performed according to EU Method A.10, under GLP conditions. In the preliminary test, the propagation by burning with flame or smoldering was determined. The flame did not spread to the rest of the train after ignition source application time of 30s, 60 s, 120 s. Instead, the sample melted where the flame was applied. Since the results were negative, the substance was determined to be not highly flammable

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The molecular structure of the test substance does not contain any chemical groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming into contact with air. The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facilities, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing.
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The structure of the test substance does not contain groups that might lead to the evolution of a dangerous amount of flammable gas when coming into contact with water or damp air. No metals, transition metals, boron or silicon are present.
The practical experience of the sponsor and the test facility (e.g. water solubility study) shows that no gases are developed, when the test substance is in contact with water. The substance is therefore regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.

Description of key information

Flammability: Key study. Method according to EU Method A.10, GLP study. The test item is not highly flammable.

Flammability in contact with water: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary / other information available): Based on experience, the substance is not flammable in contact with water.

Pyrophoricity: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary / other information available): Based on experience, the substance is not pyrophoric.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Flammability: Key study. The study of flammability was performed according to EU Method A.10, under GLP conditions. In the preliminary test, the propagation by burning with flame or smouldering was determined. The flame did not spread to the rest of the train after ignition source application time of 30s, 60 s, 120 s. Instead, the sample melted where the flame was applied. Since the results were negative, the substance was determined to be not highly flammable.

Based on experience, the substance is not pyrophoric or flammable in contact with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data, the substance is not classified for flammability according to CLP Regulation (EC) no. 1272/2008.
