Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
not specified
Conclusions:
The toxicity of phenylacetonitrile to Oncorhynchus mykiss was tested. Under the test conditions, the LC0(24h) is equal to or higher than 5 mg/L.
At this level of information, the test substance cannot be classified according to the CLP regulation (EC) n° 1272/2008 as the total exposure duration was less than the required 96h.
Executive summary:

The databank reports the acute toxicity of phenylacetonitrile (CAS n° 140-29-4) on Oncorhynchus mykiss (Rainbow trout). Fingerlings with a maximum size of 4 inches were exposed to 5 mg/L of test substance dissolved in 5 ppt of ethanol or 2 -propanone during 24h in fresh water with a temperature of 55 F, a pH ranging from 7.5 to 8.2 and dissolved oxygen content ranging from 8.6 to 13.7 ppm. No effects were noted, thus the LC0(24h) is equal to or higher than 5 mg/L. At this level of information, the test substance cannot be classified according to the CLP regulation (EC) n° 1272/2008 as the total exposure duration was less than the required 96h.
