First-aid measures

General advice

Get medical attention immediately if explosion causes physical injury.

Inhalation:

If decomposition fumes are inhaled, remove from exposure area to fresh air immediately.

If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Keep person warm and at rest.

Get medical attention immediately.

Ingestion:

Do not induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs, lean patient forward or place on left side (head-down position, if possible) to maintain an open airway and prevent aspiration. Keep patient quiet and maintain normal body temperature.

If discomfort, get medical attention immediately.

Skin contact:

Wash immediately contaminated parts with large amounts of water and soap.

Get medical attention for rash or irritation.

Eye contact:

Wash immediately with large amounts of water at least 15 minutes.

Get medical attention immediately if irritation continues.

Fire-fighting measures

Do not attempt to manually extinguish fires.

Evacuate personnel to a distant safe area and take shelter from the effects of a possible explosion.

Accidental release measures

Move well away from any ignition source.

Personal Precautions:

Do not inhale the dust. Use NIOSH approved respirator for dusts and particulates if exposed to dusting. Hoods for dusty operations are required.

Avoid all contact with the skin, eyes and clothes.

Protective gloves: If prolonged or repeated skin contact may occur, impervious gloves are recommended.

Eye protection: Industrial safety glasses with side shields are recommended for any type of industrial chemical handling.

Environmental precautions: Avoid contaminating the soil and water.

Method for cleaning up: Recover the product with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and place it in a suitable recipient showing the product identification.

Handling and storage

Handling:

Wear appropriate personal protective clothing to prevent skin contact. Wash thoroughly after handling.

During all handling operations keep the product away from sources of heat, flames and sparks and avoid all shocks, friction, all risks of electrostatic discharge and formation of dust.

Storage:

Store in hermetically-sealed containers at room temperature. Store in a well ventilated place. Do not store or consums food, drink or tobacco in areas where they may become contaminated with this material.

Exposure controls / personal protection

1. Technical protection measures:

For explosive-handling workers, caps and coveralls for full body (arms & legs) protection are recommended. Coton coveralls, underwear, socks, and conductive shoes are recommended to avoid human static discharge. A safety shower, an eye bath, and washing facilities should be available. As a precaution, handle only in well-ventilated areas, change clothing daily, bathe at the end of the work period, and wash hands thoroughly after handling.

2. Organisational protection measures:

Do not eat, drink or smoke when working. Wash your hands before breaks and at the end of the day. Take a shower at the end of a working session. Keep your work protections and clothes clean.

3. Hand protection:

Wear neoprene gloves

4. Feet protection:

Wear safety shoes with no metal component in contact with the ground.

5. Body protection:

Wear flameproof and anti-static clothing.

6. Eye protection:

Safety, leaktight goggles if dust.

7. Respiratory protection:

Dust mask must be worn if working on a dry product.

Stability and reactivity

Stability:

Chemically stable under normal storage conditions.

Unstable with heat. Unstable with shock. Unstable with static charges.

Condition(s) to be avoided:

Avoid all contact with oxidizing materials, acids, bases and alkalis.

Hazardous decomposition products:

Decomposes with heat. Decomposes with shock.

Carbon monoxide and dioxide (CO and CO2)

Nitrogen oxides in trace state (NOx)

Disposal considerations

Waste explosives must be burnt by specialist. Explosives should be destroyed by open burning , by burning in an approved incinerator, or by chemical treatment with caustics. The disposal site should be located to provide adequate quantity-distance protection for adjacent facilities and personnel. Explosives should not be burned in containers. The explosives should be ignited remotely. Personnel should wear flame resistant clothing.

Soiled packaging will be destroyed in the same way as the waste.
