Description of key information

TCP has a low toxicity potential for terrestrial micro-organisms

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Walton et al (1989) investigated the effect of a nominal concentration of 1000 µg TCP/kg soil upon the microbial activity in two different soils (silty and sandy loam) by measuring soil respiration as an indicator for microbial activity. TCP exhibited 7.74 and 17% reduction compared to the control, which suggests a 4-day EC10 and 4-day EC25 of < 1 g/kg soil dw for Captina silt loam and McLaurin sandy loam respectively. In both soils the 6-day EC0 was < 1 g/kg soil dw.

In conclusion these results indicate a low toxicity potential of TCP for terrestrial micro-organisms.
