Description of key information

Among data on short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates, four publications were selected. The studies have an acceptable reliability and show the lowest results in the available data. The lowest EC50 derived was 18 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water invertebrates

Fresh water invertebrates
Effect concentration:
18 mg/L

Marine water invertebrates

Marine water invertebrates
Effect concentration:
170 mg/L

Additional information

Three studies were selected for freshwater species, they were performed on Daphnia magna. The resulting EC50 were: 18 mg/L (Leblanc, 1980), 43 mg/L (Adema, 1978) and 43 mg/L (Adema and Vink, 1981) after 48h exposure. Even if the studies were not all performed according to the same guideline, conditions were similar and the resulting EC50 belong to the same order of magnitude.

One study was selected for marine species (Adema and Vink, 1981). It was performed on Crepidula fornicata with a 7-day exposure. The resulting EC50 was 170 mg/L.
