Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
No sample preparation was necessary. The cube was filled with the test item. The cube was mounted in the oven at 22.1 °C with a thermo element placed at the centre of the cube. Simultaneously the temperature of the oven was measured. The temperatures of the oven and the sample were measured every 5 minutes while the temperature of the oven was increased to 285 °C (the melting point of L-Isoleucine). Ignition of the test item is automatically detected when a very sharp temperature rise above the oven temperature is detected inside the sample cube.
GLP compliance:
yes
Specific details on test material used for the study:
SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Source and lot/batch No.of test material:
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 140147K06B

STABILITY AND STORAGE CONDITIONS OF TEST MATERIAL
- Storage condition of test material: room temperature (20+/-5°C), away from light and humidity.
Relative self-ignition temperature:
> 475 °C
Remarks on result:
other: The substance is not autoflammable.
Conclusions:
L-Isoleucine is not autoflammable under the conditions of the current test.

Executive summary:

In the current study the auto-flammability of L-Isoleucine was determined according to the EU A.16 method. The study is GLP. The test item was placed into a stainless steel cube and heated from room temperature to an oven temperature of 285 °C.

No sharp increase in the temperature of the sample over 400 °C in comparison to that of the oven could be detected.

After the test no residue of the test item remained.

The test item L-Isoleucine should be considered as not auto-flammable under the current conditions.
