Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

L-histidine is an essential amino acid and a histidine-deficient diet was shown to cause skin eruption. Even though the mechanism is unkonwn, this might be due to low histamine levels in the skin, and therefore the lesions represent a specific response to histidine deficiency.

Consequently, L-histidine can be considered essential for the proper structure of the skin, and skin sensitisation testing is deemed not necessary.

Justification for classification or non-classification

L-histidine is an essential amino acid and is considered essential for the proper structure of the skin.

As such, skin sensitisation testing is deemed not necessary, and it can be concluded that the substance will not exert skin sensitizing properties.
