Description of key information
Appearance
The substance was observed to be a light yellow liquid (visual observation).
Melting/freezing point
The pour point of the test substance was determined to be -33 °C (ASTM D97-15).
Boiling point
The definitive boiling point testing showed an initial emergence of bubbles at a corrected or normalised temperature of 174.9 ± 1.5 °C (448.1 K). The boiling point was 178.7 ± 0.5 °C (451.9 K). Thermal decomposition seemed to occur at 180 °C. The boiling range was 174.9 ± 1.5 °C (448.1 K) through 178.7 ± 0.5 °C (451.9 K) (OECD 103 and OPPTS 830.7220).
Density
The overall mean density result for the three samples was 1.0971 ± 0.0006 g/mL at 20.0 ± 0.1 °C and overall mean specific gravity for the three samples was reported as 1.0991 ± 0.0006 at 20.0 ± 0.1 °C (OECD 109 and OPPTS 830.7300).
Granulometry
The test item is a liquid and determination of particle size distribution is not relevant.
Vapour pressure
The vapour pressure of the test item was determined to be 0.296 Pa at 25 °C (298 K), 1.68 Pa at 65 °C (338 K) and 2.35 Pa at 85 °C (358 K) (OECD 104 and EU Method A.4).
Partition coefficient
Under the chromatographic conditions specified, the test item eluted as seven discrete peaks on the charged aerosol detector (CAD). The corresponding mean offset adjusted n-octanol/water partition coefficients (Log Pow) were a range from less than Acetanilide (i.e., < 1.0) to greater than 4, 4ʹ-DDT (i.e., > 6.5) (OECD 117, EU Method A.8 and OPPTS 830.7570).
Water solubility
The mean water solubility of the 24, 72 and 96 hour intervals (n = 9) of the test substance at a mean of 20 ± 1°C was determined to be 12.6 ± 0.4 mg/L by TOC and 26.3 ± 1.3 mg/L by ICP-OES (OECD 105 and OPPTS 830.7840).
Surface tension
The surface tension of the test substance was determined using a surface tensiometer. The corrected mean measured surface tension was 55.0 ± 0.8 (n = 6, CV = 1.52 %) at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C and was measured at a concentration of 23.6 mg/L as test material (OECD 115 and EU Method A.5).
Flash point
The mean measured flashpoint, when corrected to one atmosphere pressure (101.325 kPa) of the test substance was determined to be 88.1 °C (% difference = 2.42) or 361.3 K (% difference = 0.59) (EU Method A.9 and ASTM D 93-13).
Auto-ignition temperature
No cool flames were observed. The autoignition temperature of the test item was determined to be 287 °C (EU Method A.15).
Flammability
A flash point determination has been performed to fulfil the requirement for information on flammability of the substance. The flash point of the substance is 88.1 °C at 101.325 kPa. Based on experience in use, the substance is not pyrophoric and does not emit flammable gases in contact with water.
Explosive properties
Negative results were obtained in the BAM Fallhammer and Koenen tube tests (EU Method A.14).
Oxidising properties
The sample of test item was found to have a mean pressure rise time greater than that observed for the nitric acid reference sample. The substance is therefore not considered to be an oxidising liquid (EU Method A.21).
pH
The overall mean pH of 1 % w/v test solutions was 2.71 ± 0.07 (OPPTS 830.7000 and MT 75.3).
