Description of key information

In an OECD 202 Acute Immobilisation, the 48-hour EC50 of methyl cinnamic aldehyde alpha (cyprinal) was determined to be 9.9 mg/L in Daphnia magna.

Data from an OECD 202 acute immobilisation study on hexylcinnamaldehyde has also been provided to support the read-across of long-term toxicity to daphnia and short-term toxicity to fish data from hexylcinnamaldehyde to (2E)-2 -methyl-3 -phenylacrylaldehyde.

Additional information

In a key Daphnia magna acute immobilisation test conducted according to OECD Guideline 202 (Bayer, 1999), daphnids (20/concentration) were exposed to the test material (Methyl cinnamic aldehyde alpha; CAS# 101-39-3) at concentrations of 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0, 16, or 32 mg/L for a period of 48 hours in a static system.

 

The number of immobile daphnids were observed after 24 and 48 hours post-exposure.

 

Based on the results observed, the 48-hour EC50 of methyl cinnamic aldehyde alpha was determined to be 9.9 mg/L in Daphnia magna.
