PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Toxicity Assessment:

Glyoxylic Acid 50% is not classified or likely to be classified as carcinogenic (cat. 1A or 1B), germ cell mutagenic (cat. 1A or 1B) or toxic to reproduction (cat. 1A,1B or 2) or STOT RE 1, or STOT RE 2 according to CLP. The EC50 values obtained in acute aquatic toxicity tests were above 0.1 mg/L. These data lead to the conclusion, that Glyoxylic Acid 50% does not fulfil the T criterion.

Persistence and Bioaccumulation Assessment:

A potential for bioaccumulation of Glyoxylic Acid 50% is not expected due to the log Pow of -0.7 (no B). Glyoxylic Acid 50% is readily biodegradable. This indicates that the substance is not persistent.

Regarding all available data on biotic and abiotic degradation, bioaccumulation and toxicity it can be stated that Glyoxylic Acid 50% does neither fulfil the PBT nor the vPvB criteria.

Likely routes of exposure:

It is likely that humans will be exposed to Glyoxylic Acid 50% with the dermal and inhalative route.
