Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The flash point of diacetone alcohol goes from 42 to 63°C, depending on the acetone content of the substance. The presence of acetone leads to a decrease of the flash point.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
42 °C

Additional information

The flashpoint of Diacetone alcohol with different degrees of purity was examined in a study by Andre (2010) with Klimisch-1 reliability. The study was conducted in compliance with Method A.9. Flash Point of Commision Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, using the closed cup method.

The flash point of the different samples are :

- flash point of « flacon 1 » is 42.0°C ± 0.5°C (Analytical purity: 97.96%, acetone 1.908%)

- flash point of « flacon 4 » is 50.5°C ± 0.5°C. ( Analytical purity: 98.89% acetone 0.945%)

- flash point of « flacon 2 » is 57.0°C ± 0.5°C , (Analytical purity: 99.34% ,acetone 0.493%)

- flash point of « flacon 3 » is 63.0°C ± 0.5°C , (Analytical purity: 99.85% ,acetone 0.008%)

According to the criteria for classification and labelling set out in Regulation (EC) NO. 1272/2008.

- If the acetone content >0.945% and < 2% , the substance is classified for flammability (42°C <FP<50.5°C)

CLP: Flam liquid Cat3

- if the acetone content is approximatively 0.493% , the substance is classified for flammabilty (FP = 57°C)

CLP: Flam Liquid Cat 3

- If the acetone content is very low (approximatively 0.008%) the substance is not classified for flammability (FP = 63°C)

. In addition, the flash point of DAA (reagent grade) also was sourced from Merck Index: An Encyclopedia of Chemicals, Drugs, and Biologicals (14th Ed.), known to contain peer-reviewed data of Klimisch-2 reliability, which reported a flash point of 66°C for DAA.
