Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is readily biodegradable and a test on activated sludge respiration inhibition is not necessary. The substance was not inhibiting the microbial activity at a concentration of 5 mg/L in a ready biodegradability test.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
5 mg/L

Additional information

As the substance 4 -phenylbutan-2 -one is readily biodegradable no test with microorganisms is necessary. The substance was not inhibiting to micro-organisms in the study on ready biodegradability at a test concentration of 5 mg/L. In the absence of a valid study on microbial toxicity, the result of the study on ready biodegradability can be used to derive a NOEC for toxicity to micro-organisms in accordance with ECHA guidance R.7b. The highest test concentration of 5 mg/L applied in the valid study on ready biodegradability was used as the NOEC in the hazard assessment.
