Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
bioaccumulation in aquatic species: fish
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation based on log Kow <=3

Description of key information

Waiving of study:
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the Bioconcentration Factor, BCF (required in section 9.3.2) does not need to be conducted as calcium cyanamide is expected to have a low potential for bioaccumulation.
- The substance is rapidly degraded within hours or a few days in sediment and soil.
- In addition, the log Kow is expected ≤ 3 as the substance is highly soluble in water. A very low logPow of -0.81 was calculated by EPIWIn (v4.00) for the free acid. In addition based on its ionic structure it is not likely to be dissolved very good in n-octanol.
- The calculated BCF for the free acid of calcium cyanamide of -0.047 also indicates no risk for bioaccumulation. The value for the Calcium salt is expected to be even lower.
- Mammalian data does not indicate bioaccumulation.
