Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Butylal viscosity was measured in two experiments:

Dynamic viscosity was measured from 10 to 130°C in Palczewka-Tulinska & Szafranski (2000) experiment. Dynamic viscosity of 1.056 mPa · s at 20°C was calculated from equation developped with experimental data.

Static viscosity was measured in Durieux (1995) experiment as 1.083 E-6 m2/s at 25°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Viscosity:
1.056 mPa · s (dynamic)
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

In Palczewka-Tulinska & Szafranski (2000) experiment, Dynamic Viscosity (DV) was measured at temperature (T) from 10 to 130°C. Whereas not measured at 20 or 25°C, DV was derived from the following equation established with experimental data:

log DV = -1.85894 + (541.0837/(T-5.7569)) with DV in mPa · s and T in °C.

DV at 20°C: 1.056 mPa · s

DV at 25°C: 0.981 mPa · s

Static Viscosity (SV) was calculated from DV using butylal density (measured in the same study and presented under "Density" point).

SV at 20°C: 1.264 E-6 m2/s

SV at 25°C: 1.180 E-6 m2/s

In Durieux (1995) experiment, SV was measured at 25°C as 1.083 E-6 m2/s
