The calibration factor for doule-distilled water was generated using 7 surface tension readings at 20.4 -20.6oC and comparing to the literature values. The Mean calibration Factor was shown to be = 1.002.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The surface tension of a 1.02 g/L solution of test material has been determined to be 54.6 mN/m at 20.5 degrees celsius. The test material is considered to be a surface-active material.
Executive summary:

Substances haveing a surface tension below 60 mN/m are regarded as being surface-active. Although the test material is surface active, for a test material to be classified as a true surfacant a value of below 40 mN/m should be obtained. This has been deemed to have no significant effect on the adsorption coefficient test ( section 5.4.1).

It is evident from the information obtained in the hydrolysis study (see section 5.1.2) and data relating to pH of the test material in water that negligable hydrolysis of the sample solution occurred during the course of the surface tension study.
