Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Eye: Flush eyes thoroughly with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses after the initial 1-2 minutes and continue flushing for sevral additional minutes. If effects occur, consult a physician, preferably an opthalmologist.
Skin: Wash skin with plenty of water.
Ingestion: If swallowed, seek medical attention. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel.
Inhalation: Move person to fresh air. If effects occur consult a physician.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media: water fog
Wear positive-pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing.
Accidental release measures
Small spills of the substance should be cooled with water if in a molten state, so that it will soldify. Prevent entry into waterways. Collect small spills and place in a suitable clearly labelled container for disposal. Large spills should be reported to Dow Agrosciences for action.
Handling and storage
Risk Management Measures: This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each manufacturing site. Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Processor/User of the Registrant’s intermediate.
Further precautions are recommedned for conditions where a potential for exposure exists.
EXPOSURE GUIDELINES: Dow AgroSciences Industrial Hygiene Guide for 2,3,5,6-Tetrachloropyridine is 2 mg/M3.
ENGINEERING CONTROLS: Provide general and/or local exhaust ventilation to control airborne levels below the exposure guidelines.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Atmospheric levels should be maintained below the exposure guideline. When respiratory protection is required for certain operations, use an approved air-purifying respirator. The following should be effective types of air-purifying respirators: organic vapor cartridge with a particulate pre-filter.
SKIN PROTECTION: No precautions other than clean bodycovering clothing should be needed.
EYE/FACE PROTECTION: Use safety glasses. APPLICATORS AND ALL OTHER HANDLERS: Refer to the product label for personal protective clothing and equipment.
