Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, a study on explosive properties does not need to be conducted if there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule. As the substance does not contain any components with chemical groups associated with explosivity as reported in Table R.7.1-28 (Chemical groups associated with explosive properties) of the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance (ECHA, 2008), then a negative result is likely.
Moreover, The substance is synthesised in a closed process. It is then collected and transported via a pipe-line all the way to its site of use (where its end use is as a fuel in a thermal power station). The pattern of use of the substance involves then a high level of containment. Accordingly, exposure to the substance is very unlikely.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the structure of the molecule and taking into account the provisions laid down in Council Directive 67/548/EEC and CLP, distillation residues of butyraldehyde, 2-ethylhexenal and isobutanal hydrogenation by-products does not have to be classified with respect to explosiveness.
