Description of key information

Based on flash point determination according to EU Method A.9 and experience in handling and use, the test item was considered not flammable as such or in contact with water and not to exhibit pyrophoric properties. The chemical structure of the test item contains no groups associated with flammability properties (as such or in contact with water) and/or pyrophoric properties. Studies according to EU Method A.12 and EU Method A.13 were waived and a theory based evaluation provided.

Additional information

In accordance with 3rd draft ECHA guidance IR/CSA chapter R.7a table R.7.1-6, the test on the flammability (Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.10) was not performed as the test item is a liquid. For liquids the primary value for ease of ignition is the flash point conducted using Method A9 ‘Flash Point Method’ of Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008. The result of the Flash Point test is used to allocate a liquid substance into the appropriate flammability class.

In accordance with Annex XI Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH), the test on flammability in contact with water does not need to be conducted as the substance shows no reaction with water. The chemical structure of test item does not contain chemical groups, which may lead to the conclusion that the test substance is capable of developing a dangerous amount of (flammable) gas in contact with damp air or water. This is based on the experience in handling and use.

In accordance with Annex XI Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH), the test on pyrophoric abilities does not need to be conducted as the substance in not flammable and shows no reaction with the air.The test substance does not contain any chemical group that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming in contact with air at room temperature. This is based on the experience in handling and use.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the results of a flash point test, the molcular structure and experience in handling and use, the substance was not classified and labelled as flammable, flammable in contact with water and pyrophoric according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP).
