Details on absorption:
Glycol ethers and their acetates are readily absorbed following oral administration or inhalation. Dermal absorption is also an important route.
Details on distribution in tissues:
Glycol ethers are readily distributed throughout the body - no substantial accumulation of the parent compound has been observed. In contrast to the metabolites of ethlene glycol methyl ether and ethylene glycol ethyl ether, the metabolite of ethylene glycol butylene ether shows no evidence of significant accumulation.

In the metabolism of the longer chain ethylene glycol ethers (ethylene glycol butyl ether, -propyl ether, -isopropyl ether and -phenyl ether), methoxyacetic and ethoxyacetic acid are not formed.

The alkoxyacetic acid metabolites, methoxyacetic acid and ethoxyacetic acid, have been found to be responsible for bone marrow depression, testicular atrophy, developmental toxicity, and immunotoxicity in animals treated with methyl- and ethyl-substituted ethylene glycol ethers. As these metabolites are not formed in the metabolism of the longer chain ethylene glycol ethers (ethylene glycol butyl ether, -propyl ether, -isopropyl ether and -phenyl ether) these materials do not cause the described effects.
