Description of key information

A melting range of 174.1 to 174.7 °C under decomposition was observed in the study of Henke (2013) for L-Cysteine hydrochloride. When melting, the test item started to change its colour from a white powder to an amber coloured liquid with sulphurous odour. The test item was shifted to the upper end of the capillary.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
174 °C
