Details on study design: HPLC method:
Because the test substance is not liable to undergo ionisation, it was only necessary to
perform an evaluation under one test condition which was representative of
environmental conditions. This was achieved by using a mobile phase of acetonitrile
(45 parts) and water (55 parts), both reagents of HPLC grade.
The dead time of the column and system, T0, was measured using formamide as a nonretained
solute (void volume marker). The HPLC column was calibrated for distribution
coefficient against retention time using calibration substances of known distribution
coefficient dissolved in appropriate mobile phase. The test substance was dissolved in
mobile phase and the retention time recorded. Duplicate estimations were performed for
each series.

The distribution coefficient was estimated by the HPLC method using isocratic elution.
The procedure conformed to those outlined in OECD Guideline 121 and EC Directive
2001/59/EC Method C19. The following HPLC system was used:

Instrumental Conditions
Pump : Jasco PU 980
Injection volume : 50 μL
Detector : Jasco UV-975 set to 210 nm
Column : Zorbax CN, 250 x 4.6 mm
Mobile phase : As described below
Flow rate : 1.0 mL/min
Column temperature : 25°C
Type:
log Koc
Value:
ca. 3.88
Temp.:
25 °C
Details on results (HPLC method):
The distribution coefficient on soil (log Koc) of the test item, was estimated by
HPLC simulation procedure. The test substance eluted as a single component with a
retention time equivalent to a log Koc value of 3.88, and within a 95% confidence range
of 3.46 to 4.44.

The quantities of each calibration and test substance injected onto the column are given in
Table 13, together with appropriate purity and reference data.

Conclusions:
The distribution coefficient on soil (log Koc) of 2,4,7,9-tetramethyldecane-4,7-diol, was estimated by HPLC simulation procedure. The test substance eluted as a single component with a retention time equivalent to a log Koc value of 3.88, and within a 95% confidence range of 3.46 to 4.44.
