Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.12 (Flammability (Contact with Water))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)

In contact with water, the substance does not liberate flammable gases in hazardous amounts.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Remarks:
With application of EC-Guideline 1272/2008 (‘Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals - GHS‘ Annex 1 chapter 2.6 ‘flammable liquids’
Conclusions:
The test item did not ignite spontaneously with water and did not liberate gases in hazardous amounts when tested according to EC Test Procedure A 12. (Currenta, 2009).
Executive summary:

The test item did not ignite spontaneously with water and did not liberate gases in hazardous amounts when tested according to EC Test Procedure A 12. (Currenta, 2009).

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

Contact with water:
The substance does not liberate highly flammable gases in contact with water or humid air as determined by the EU-method A.12 (Currenta, 2009).
Flammability:
The flammability of a substance is determined following the method N.1 (UN-manual of testing) or A.10 (EU-method). But in accordance with section 2 of REACH Annex XI, a study is technically not possible as the substance is a liquid. The flammability of a liquid is described by the flash point.
Pyrophoric properties:
Pyrophoric properties are determined following the methods N.3 (UN-Manual of testing) or A.13 (EU-method). But in accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, a study does not need to be conducted as it is scientifically not necessary. During handling and use, no pyrophoric properties were observed and the structure does not give a reference to pyrophoric properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on experience during handling and use of the test substance ester pyrophoric properties can be excluded.

A test according to the method A.12 for the determination of the flammability on contact with water or humid air showed that the test item did not liberate highly flammable gases in contact with water or humid air.
