The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.

Additional information

The assessment of the toxicity to aquatic microorganisms is based on experimental data for 1,2 -propanediamine (CAS 78-90 -0) and the source substance 1,3-propanediamine (CAS 109-76-2). In a study with Pseudomonas putida according to DIN 38412-8, the 16-h EC50 was determined to be > 1000 mg/L for 1,2-propanediamine (CAS 78-90-0; Bayer Ag, 1979; report no. 790106 -1014). In addition, a 30-min EC50 of > 1000 mg/L was determined for the source substance 1,3-propanediamine (CAS 109-76-2) in a short-term respiration inhibition study according to OECD 209 using domestic activated sludge as inoculum (BASF AG, 2002; report no. 02/0218/08/1).

The read-across approach will be verified in a new OECD 209 study with 1,2 -propanediamine.

Based on the available experimental data, it is concluded that the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when 1,2‑propanediamine (CAS 78-90-0) is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
