No experimental data are available on the long-term toxicity of 1,2-propanediamine (CAS 78-90-0) to aquatic invertebrates. Therefore, a read-across was performed to the structurally analogous substance 1,3-propanediamine (CAS 109-76-2). The long-term effects of 1,3-propanediamine were studied under GLP and according to OECD 211 using Daphnia magna as test species. The relatively low test concentrations did not cause a relevant increase of the pH of the test solutions. No statistically significant long-term effects were observed up to the highest tested concentration of 10 mg/L. The 21‑d NOEC of 1,3-propanediamine was determined to be ≥ 10 mg/L (nom., analytically verified; BASF SE, 2014; report no. 51E0218/02E009).

The read-across approach will be verified in a Daphnia magna reproduction study according to OECD 211.

It can be concluded that long-term effects on aquatic invertebrates are not expected.
