Description of key information

Under the conditions of the present test the 96h-LC50 for carp exposed to the test item is between 3.3 and 5.9 mg/l with 0% mortality at 1.8 mg/l and 100% mortality at 5.9 mg/l.

Ten fish per concentration were exposed for 96 hours in a semi-static system to a concentration range of nominally 0.56 to 19 mg/l forming a geometric progression with a factor of 1.8. The test media were renewed after 48 hours.


After 24 hours of exposure all fish had died at nominally 10.6 mg/l and higher. After 96 hours of exposure the lowest concentration at which 100% mortality was recorded was 5.9 mg/l, while 10% mortality was recorded at 3.3 mg/l. No mortality of fish was observed at and below 1.8 mg/l.



Effects other than mortality, were observed in fish exposed to 1. 0 mg/l and higher. The effect recorded was hypoactivity. No effects were recorded in the fish exposed to 0.56 mg/l.


Analysis of the samples taken at the start (t=0) of the final test revealed a mean actual concentration of 96% relative to the nominal concentration of 19 mg/l. The concentrations of the samples of nominally 0.56 and 3.3 mg/l could not be determined because these concentrations were not situated between the points where the calibrati on curve was linear. After 48 hours just before renewal of the test media, the actual concentration at nominal 19 mg/l was of the initial actual concentration.


The LC50 values calculated from these data decreased from 5.73 mg/l at 24 hours to 4.14 mg/l at 72 hours with a 95% confidence interval of 3.54 to 5.29 mg/l e The 96h-LC50 was between 3.3 and 5 .9 mg/l.


Under the conditions of the present test the 96h-LC50 for carp exposed to the test item is between 3.3 and 5.9 mg/l with 0% mortality at 1.8 mg/l (LC0) and 100% mortality at 5.9 mg/l (LC100) .
