Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
boiling point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
May 1992
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. However, some informations are missing in the experimental report. Purity is specified in the report, and isomers composition is available from the notifier. Therefore validation applies, but with restrictions.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.2 (Boiling Temperature)
Version / remarks:
Directive 84/449/EEC
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Inspected on 19 June 1990. Signed on 5 October 1990.
Type of method:
distillation method
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Storage condition of test material: metal can, under refrigeration at 2-8°C in the dark.
Key result
Boiling pt.:
316.8 - 339.8 °C
Atm. press.:
988.6 mBar
Decomposition:

1 2
Initial Boiling Point 316.5 °C 317.0 °C
Final Boiling Point 331.5 °C 333.5°C
Dry Point 339.5°C 340.0 °C
Boiling Range 316.5 - 339.5°C 317.0 - 340.0 °C
Barometric pressure 991.6 mbar 991.7 mbar
Corrected pressure (0°C) 998.5 mbar 988.6 mbar

Sample turned yellow on heating (temperature not specified). Dark brown, oily residue remained in distillation flask.

Executive summary:

The boiling range of the test substance was measured under GLP according to EU A2 guideline, distillation method.

Two runs were performed. The range retained was the mean of the initial boiling point values and the dry point values.

The boiling range of the test substance is 316.8 - 339.8°C. The colour change may indicate a chemical change upon heating.

Description of key information

Boiling range (multi-isomers) = 316.8 to 339.8°C (under 988.6 mbar)

The colour of the substance changes upon heating (turns yellow).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A reliable study, conducted according to a recognized EC method and under GLP, is available. Despite restrictions due to missing information in the report, it is considered as a key study. The change of state occurs within a 23°C-interval, which can be explained by the multi-isomers nature of the substance. As the result is expressed as a range, and because of possible decomposition, no key value is retained.
