Description of key information
No data are available on the toxicity of biphenyl-4,4'-diol to soil microorganisms. A PNEC for the soil compartment has been derived from the aquatic toxicity data set using the equilibrium partitioning method.

This data point has been waived for biphenyl-4,4'-diol on the grounds that significant direct and/or indirect exposure of the terrestrial environment is not expected to occur. Under these circumstances, data for the effects of biphenyl-4,4'-diol on the activity of soil microorganisms are considered to be unnecessary.
