The short-term toxicity test available performed with fish and
algae and that were considered as valid (validity of 1) conclude on a
toxic effect of 2-EHN and justify a classification (Pseudokirchnerella
subcapitata: EC50 (72 h) < 0.8 mg/L based on average specific growth
rate (ErC50) and < 0.8 mg/L based on yield (EyC50)).
The acute toxicity test conducted with Daphnia magnia is
not used for the classification of 2-EHN. Indeed, this study have
restriction due to the lack of analytical confirmation of dose
concentration and as the aquatic invertebrate is not the most sensitive
species for aquatic compartment, no other study has been conducted.
2-EHN is not readily biodegradable and has a log Kow≥4
; it is covered by the R 50/53 criterion set out in Annex VI to
Directive 67/548/EEC. On
the same rationale, classification Aquatic Chronic 1 – H410 is
proposed according to CLP regulation.
