Citric acid is readily biodegradable and as such does not fulfil the criteria for P or vP. The substance also has a low log Kow value (≤4.5) and, therefore, does not meet the screening criteria for bioaccumulation (B). In addition, citric acid is not classified as a CMR according to Regulation EC No 1272/2008 and does not meet the screening criteria for T in the environment due to its low short-term toxicity (L(E)C50s are >0.01 mg/L); therefore citric acid is not T.
It is concluded that citric acid is neither PBT nor vPvB.
