Principles of method if other than guideline:
A saturated solution of 1 g of C12-14 amine oxide in 20 mL n-octanol was stirred for 24 hours at room temperature followed by centrifugation at 2500 rpm to separate the undissolved solids from the aqueous phase. An aliquot of the n-octanol phase was evaporated till dryness under an airflow at 70 deg C. The resulting dry residue was then dissolved in deionised water. The concentration of amine oxide in the resolubilised residue was quantified using 2 methods: DBAS and nitrogen determination.
