Description of key information

Cyanuric chloride was tested for toxicity to birds. A LD50 of 192 mg/kg bw (95 % CL: 102 - 313 mg/kg bw) was determined for the adult Japanese Quail.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Short-term EC50 or LC50 for birds:
192 mg/kg food

Additional information

Key study:

The value (14 d-LD50 = 192 mg/kg bw) for the key parameter is based on the lowest observed value in a study considered to be reliable (81-0029-FKT, japanese quail, single oral application via gavage in PEG 400).

Supporting studies: - In a study (81-0031-FKT) cyanuric chloride (2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine) was tested (Peking ducklings, single oral application via gavage in PEG 400) according to guideline EPA OPPTS 850.2100 (Avian Acute Oral Toxicity Test) with minor deviations (10 ml/Kg bw application volume). Under the present conditions a LD50 of > 20 mg/kg bw was determined for the Peking duckling. Higher values could not be tested as the animals regurgitated the test solution.

- In the guideline study 81-0030-FKT under the condition tested the LD50 lies above the highest tested concentration of 1000 ppm given in food. slight, but not significant effects on food consumption and body weight development were seen in the highest dose group.

The study 81-0030-FKT is regarded unreliable as the amount of active ingredient was not analyzed.
