Additional information

Phototransformation in water (cited from the US EPA Document 1989): Based on the experimentally determined rate constant for the reaction of benzyl alcohol with alkylperoxy radicals, 2.4 L/mol-s (Hendry et al. 1974), and an estimated alkylperoxy concentration in water of 1 x 10-9 mol/L (Mill et al. 1980), the half life for phototransformation in water is 9 years. The half-life for the reaction of benzyl alcohol with photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals in water can be estimated at ca. 100 days using experimentally determined rate constants (Dorfman & Adams 1973; Mill et al. 1980).
