Additional information

AKD shows low solubility, hydrolyses rapidly under environmental conditions and is readily biodegradable, and in addition there is no direct or indirect environmental discharge of AKD to the environment. The lack of adverse effects in aquatic organisms at concentrations exceeding water solubility in combination with lack of effects when solvent or dispersion were used to increase the water soluble fraction leads to the conclusion that AKD is not hazardous to the aquatic environment. The readily biodegradability and rapid hydrolysis indicate limited potential for chronic exposure and effects, hence also no hazard for the longer term is identified. AKD is also of low toxicity to terrestrial organisms and mammals, and has low potential for bioaccumulation, and it is considered unlikely that AKD will cause toxic effects if accumulated via the food chain in higher organisms.

Conclusion on classification
