Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Aluminium Zirconium Chloride Hydroxide is very soluble in water. It is produced and marketed in aqueous solutions containing between ca. 27 and 51% (mass), i.e. ca. 270-510 g/L. The viscosity of aqueous solutions increases with concentration and gelation is observed towards higher concentrations.

A defined numeric value for an equilibrium water solubility cannot be determined for this substances(e.g. according to method OECD 105).

Further, the chemistry of the relevant metals aluminium and zirconium in aqueous solutions is complex. Depending on concentrations, pH and other ions being present, Al and Zr do not exist as simple metal cations, but instead form various species, most relevantly hydroxides and hydroxide-oxides.

To obtain information on the solubility and speciation behaviour at environmentally and physiologically relevant concentrations, a reduced testing programme was conducted in purified water and in reconstituted water (target pH=6 and 8). The results are presented in two separate endpoint records in the technical dossier.
