Additional information

Aquatic PNECs

Data has been obtained from studies conducted with 2,3-dichlorobutadiene-1,3. Acute toxicity data are available for fish, Daphnia and algae.  The lowest acute toxicity endpoint use for use in determining the freshwater aquatic PNEC is the Daphnia acute 48 hour EC50 value of 1.28 mg/L.

The following PNECs were calculated using this endpoint:

PNEC Aqua (freshwater) - Based on an assessment factor of 1000, the PNEC is 0.00128 mg/L.

PNEC Aqua (marine water) - Based on an assessment factor of 10000 the PNEC is 0.000128 mg/L.

PNEC Aqua (intermittent releases) - Based on an assessment factor of 100 the PNEC is 0.0128 mg/L.

STP PNEC

The 3 hour EC10 obtained from an activated sludge respiration study was 163.8 mg/L. Based on an assessment factor of 10 the PNEC STP is 16.38 mg/L.

Conclusion on classification

According to Annex VI to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, 2,3-dichlorobutadiene-1,3 is classified for environmental hazards as: Aquatic Chronic 2 (H411) – toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
