Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

OECD Guideline 301 B (Ready Biodegradability: CO2 Evolution Test) - activated sludge, domestic, non-adapted - Readily biodegradable.

The shake flask method at pH 7 was applied for the determination of the partition coefficient (Pow) of MEA Polyborate 1:3 and 1:1. The Powvalue of the test item was 1.4´10-1. It corresponds with a log Powvalue of -0.9 for both ratios. The shake flask method pH 7 was appliedfor the determination of the partition coefficient (Pow) of MEA Polyborate 1:3 and 1:1. The Powvalue of the test item was 3.3´10-3. It corresponds with a log Powvalue of -2.5 both both ratios.

On the basis of the ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment) and the available short-term toxicity data it is not possible to assess whether the Toxicity (T) criterion has been fulfilled. The available short-term toxicity data for MEA Polyborates (1:1 and 1:3) indicates that the lowest reliable acute E(L)C50 values is 26 mg active ingredient /l for the freshwater algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. The corresponding NOEC value from the study is 3.2 mg active ingredient /l which is higher than the toxicity criterion of 0.01 mg l-1.
