Endpoint:
surface tension
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
August 24 - November 17, 2011
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Justification for type of information:
Refer chapter 13 for the detailed structural analogue justification.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across: supporting information
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 115 (Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
ring method
Surface tension:
73.6 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Solution prepared with 90% saturation solubility
Conclusions:
The surface tension of a test solution at 90% of the 3,3-DDS saturation solubility in water and at 20°C was 73.6 mN/m. According to this, the test substance is considered not to be surface active. The test substance can consider as not to be surface active.
Executive summary:

A GLP compliant test was carried out with source substance 3,3 DDS according to OECD Guideline no. 115 and EU method A.5: The surface tension of a test solution at 90% of the test substance saturation solubility in water and at 20°C was 73.6 mN/m. According to this, the test substance is considered not to be surface active. Based on test results, we can consider 3,3-DDS as not to be surface active.

Description of key information

The surface tension of the read across substance (3,3-DDS), at 90% saturated solution in water and 20°C, was 73.6 mN/m. According to this, dapsone is not considered surface active.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
