Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the surface tension of the read across substance, C12-16 ADBAC (purity: 94.4%) according to OECD Guideline 115 and EU Method A.5 (ring method). Additionally, the critical micelle concentration (CMC) was determined. The determination of surface tension of an aqueous solution of 1 g/L was carried out at a temperature range of 19.7 to 19.8°C. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) was determined by measuring the surface tension of the read across substance at different concentrations. 1 g/L (total volume 100 mL), prepared in double distilled water, was used to determine the surface tension in 10 measurements. Different concentrations of the read across substance in the range of 0.02 to 5 g/L (total volume 100 mL), prepared in bi-distilled water, were applied for the determination of the critical micelle concentration. The experiment was carried out at 20 ± 0.5°C. The CMC were determined to be 0.50 g/L for C14-chain length and 1.0 g/L for C12 -chain length. Under the study conditions, the surface tension of the read across substance was determined to be 28.27 ± 0.05 mN/m (Schulze, 2007). Based on the results of the read across, a similar surface tension is expected for the test substance.
