Description of key information

There is no long term test with birds available for the 3 thiocyanates. Only one short term dietary toxicity test is available for ammonium thiocyanate with Japanese quail. The 5-day dietary LC50 for ammonium thiocyanate was established as exceeding 5000 mg/kg diet, which is equivalent to 899 mg/kg body weight/day. The no observed effect concentration (NOEC) in this study was 1250 mg/kg diet (248 mg/kg body weight/day).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Short-term EC50 or LC50 for birds:
5 000 mg/kg food

Additional information

Since the dietary LC50 is > 5000 mg/kg diet, a full chronic test is not necessary (according to Chapter R.7c of the REACH TGD.
