Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of the test substance (RCC 1999). Algae turned out to be the most sensitive organisms tested.

In a GLP guideline study according to OECD 201 the EC50 value for algal growth was determined to be 3 mg/L (RCC 1999). This result is supported by two further GLP studies in which EC50 values for algal growth of 3.2 and 6.3 mg/L were determined (RCC 2006).

The LC0 and the LC50 values of the test substance in Danio rerio were found to be > 63 mg/L respectively.

The EC50 value (geometrical mean value) of the test substance in Daphnia magna was calculated to be 56 mg/L.

Both, the studies on fish and on daphnids demonstrated that there were no significant toxic effects of the test item on the tested organisms in the range of water solubility (34.7 mg/L, determined in RCC study 743411, 1999).

The EC50 value of the test substance on activated sludge according to OECD 209 was determined to be 356 mg/L (RCC 1999).

Additionally, chronic studies on fish, algae and daphnids are available.

The EC10 on algae was determined to be 0.29 mg/L .

The NOEC for sublethal effects in a long term study on Pimephales promelas was found to be greater than 0.89 mg/L (Springborn Smithers 2006).

In a long term GLP study according to OECD 211, a NOEC for reproduction of 10.2 mg/L was determined for Daphnia magna (RCC 2000).
