Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The assessment is based on the data currently available. New studies, based on the category review and the final decisions issued for some of the category substances, which are also relevant for this assessment, are currently being conducted. The hazard assessment with respect to aquatic toxicity will be updated once all ongoing studies have been finalised.

The toxicity of Alcohols, C8-10, ethoxylated, sulfates, sodium salts to aquatic algae was assessed in a weight of evidence approach based on the grouping of substances (category approach).

For the assessment of toxicity of the target substance, a category read-across to Alcohols, C8-10, ethoxylated, sulfates, ammonium salts was conducted.

The toxicity of the Alcohols, C8-10, ethoxylated, sulfates, ammonium salts to aquatic algae was tested in a GLP guideline study conducted according to OECD 201. Green algae of the species Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were exposed to nominal test substance concentrations of 0.95, 3.05, 9.77, 31.3, 100 mg/L. The substance concentrations in freshly prepared and from test solutions at the end of the exposure period analytically verified by liquid chromatography (LC) and tandem mass spectrometry detection (LC-MS/MS). The mean measured test concentrations after 72 h were values were within the range of ± 20 %, the nominal concentrations (i.e. <LOQ, 0.81, 2.65, 8.51, 29.4, and 96.7 mg/L). Sterilised synthetic OECD medium prepared with purified water was used as test medium. Algal cell concentrations were determined after 24, 48 and 72 h in samples taken directly from the test vessels. A slight concentration-dependent inhibition of growth rate and yield was observed. The determined NOErC (72 h) was 31.3 mg/L based on nominal concentrations. The ErC50 (72 h) was >100 mg/L (nominal).
