Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a well conducted Buehler skin sensitisation test (Hűls AG, 1998), dichloro(3-chloropropyl)methylsilane gave no evidence of sensitising potential in guinea pigs challenged at 1% in corn oil following induction with 2.5% in the same vehicle. The selected study is the only available skin sensitisation study for the registered substance. It was conducted in accordance with an appropriate OECD test guideline and in compliance with GLP.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

The study summarised is the only study available for skin sensitisation. The induction and challenge concentrations were consistent with the requirements of OECD 406 in relation to their irritant status; 1% in corn oil being non-irritant and 2.5% in this vehicle a mild-moderate irritant.

Dichloro(3-chloropropyl)methylsilane hydrolyses rapidly in contact with water and moist air, releasing two moles of hydrogen chloride for each mole of parent material. It is therefore classified as corrosive and sensitisation testing under conditions where its corrosive properties pertained would not be appropriate.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data do not support the classification of dichloro(3-chloropropyl)methylsilane for sensitisation according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
