Overall result: melting temperature greater than 633 K, with possible thermal decomposition from approximately 513K.
Discussion:
The resulting residue of a very fine black powder remaining on completion of each determination confirmed that no phased transition, i.e. melting, occurred and that the melting temperature of the test material was greater than 360°C (>633 K). However a minor exothermic event observed from approximately 513 K may have originated from thermal decomposition of the test material. Regrettably the absence of any change in the test material appearance prevented further investigation of this thermal event by metal block apparatus or other similar techniques.
Similar thermographic profiles were obtained using air and nitrogen atmospheres; this indicated that the observed decomposition in both determinations was probably thermal and not oxidative.
