Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The density of the xylene isomers and ethylbenzene range from 0.86 to 0.88 g/cm3 at 25°C. The density of m-xylene, p-xylene and ethylbenzene was reported as 0.86 g/cm3 at 25°C and for o-xylene this was 0.88 g/cm3 at 25°C. The mean value of 0.86 g/cm3 will be used for the risk assessment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
0.86

Additional information

The CRC Handbook (Lide, 2008) is a peer reviewed handbook and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint. The data are supported by results from the Merck Handbook (O'Neil 2006), which gives densities for m-xylene, o-xylene, p-xylene and ethylbenzene of 0.8684 g/cm3, 0.8801 g/cm3, 0.86104 g/cm3 and 0.866 g/cm3 at 25°C respectively.
