REACH amendment enters into force on 1 December 2010

Helsinki, 01 December 2010 - The Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation foresaw a number of amendments to the REACH Regulation which take place on 1 December 2010, immediately after the first registration deadline. They will in particular impact on the information required for registering substances.

The amendment is a consequence of Article 58 of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (the CLP Regulation).

Registration dossiers submitted to ECHA from 1 December 2010 will be affected by the following provisions:

  • They will have to include the information on classification and labelling according to the criteria specified in the CLP Regulation (Article 58(11) of CLP);
  • The dissemination of information contained in them  will take into account the hazard criteria established by the CLP Regulation (Article 58(7) of CLP);
  • The content of the chemical safety report will also be impacted by the hazard criteria established in the CLP Regulation (Article 58(1) of CLP).

In addition, ECHA has published "Questions & Answers on the impact of the CLP Regulation on registration dossiers submitted from 1 December 2010". This document describes the most relevant modifications introduced by the CLP Regulation and affecting registration dossiers.
