The new version of REACH-IT (2.7), now ready for use, introduces new terms and conditions that clarify how companies receive decisions and other communications from ECHA. In addition, the update now allows the submission of applications for authorisation through REACH-IT. At the same time, a new version of IUCLID launched.
The April issue of the ECHA Newsletter is now online. It focuses on substitution of hazardous chemicals and innovation. We have included case studies, interviews and guest columns that show how industry, authorities and organisations are working for safer chemicals and greener innovation.
The publication clarifies the issues of the interplay between the strict airworthiness requirements and the REACH authorisation process and it provides best practice advice that can also benefit other industry sectors.
Substances on the Authorisation List (Annex XIV of the REACH Regulation) cannot be placed on the market or used after the so-called "sunset date" unless an authorisation has been granted for a specific use, or if the use has been exempted from authorisation. As soon as a substance is included in the Authorisation List, manufacturers, importers or downstream users of this substance may apply for an authorisation.
Some 200 representatives of potential applicants have participated in ECHA's seminars on application for authorisation. Furthermore many others have been involved in the preparation of applications. It would be opportune now to share experiences and lessons learned to further improve the process. ECHA is organising this workshop in collaboration with Cefic and Eurometaux.
The workshop aims to bring together experts in the field of risk assessment of nanomaterials to discuss and update scientific principles and guidelines for assessing human health and environmental risks of chemicals substances in nanoform.
