Europees Agentschap voor chemische stoffen (ECHA)
Het ECHA, dat is gevestigd in de Finse hoofdstad Helsinki,
beheert de registratie, beoordeling, autorisatie en beperkingen ten
aanzien van chemische stoffen. Het staat garant voor de nodige consistentie
in de Europese Unie. De bovenvermelde REACH-procedures moeten extra
informatie opleveren over chemische stoffen, zodat die stoffen veilig
kunnen worden gebruikt en de Europese industrie haar concurrentiepositie
behoudt.
Bij de besluitvorming zal het Agentschap rekening houden met de beste
beschikbare wetenschappelijke en technische gegevens en socio-economische
informatie. Het geeft ook informatie over chemische stoffen evenals
technisch en wetenschappelijk advies. Het Agentschap moet ook alle
voorstellen voor proeven bestuderen en goedkeuren, en daarbij zullen
dierproeven tot een minimum worden beperkt.
